†, A. Hoogerwerf. |
In 1973, 1974 and 1975 I visited St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles. During these visits I spent much time observing birds on this island, while short excursions were also made to the neighbouring islands Saba and St. Eustatius. The periods of our visits were: ST. MARTIN: 7-19 April, 30 April-3 May and 11-19 May 1973, 1-7 and 16-27 February, 2-11 and 18-31 December 1974, 6-13 January 1975. SABA: 4-8 May 1973. ST. EUSTATIUS: 8-10 May 1973, 8-15 February and 12-17 December 1974. |

Flowers actinomorphic, usually 5-merous, rarely very large. Inflorescence consisting of extra-axillary or terminal panicles, racemes, umbels or cymes or flowers solitary. Calyx persistent, 5-lobed, the segments imbricate or separate in the bud, the tube short. Corolla sympetalous, shortly or deeply 5-fid, rotate, campanulate, infundibuliform, hypocrateriform or tubular; the segments commonly reflexed; aestivation imbricate, contorted or rarely valvate. Corona usually present, taking various forms and formed either wholly or partly by appendages to the corolla or the staminal... |

Four monotypic genera have been described for Deuteromycetes with superficial, crustose or pulvinate, setose conidiomata and hyaline, septate stauroconidia consisting of a main axis and 2—3 apical branches. The types of Fumagopsis Spegazzini (1910), Vonarxia Batista & Bezerra (1960) and Kazulia Nag Raj (1977) are specimens collected in South America. All develop superficially on living or decaying leaves. Phalangispora constricta Nawawi & Webster (1982) has been described from a pure culture isolated from conidia collected at Malaya. Fumagopsis trigliphioides Speg. has been redescribed by Van der Aa & Van Oorschot (1985) from the type specimen collected in 1909 in Argentina on leaves of Lucuma neriifolia. It forms a pigmented, setose,... |

A description is given of the morphological characters of Phoma section Phyllostictoides and its taxonomical position is discussed. A key is provided for the varieties of the type species Phoma exigua Desm., followed by a host-fungus and a fungus-host index. Two new varieties are proposed: Phoma exigua var. forsythiae (Sacc.) comb. nov. and Phoma exigua var. noackiana (Allesch.) comb. nov. The synonymy, selected literature, a representative culture and data on ecology and distribution are given for all varieties. |

A number of pycnidial fungi described from Atriplex and Chenopodium, in Europe, North- and South-America are brought into synonymy with Phoma variospora nom. nov., Phoma dimorphospora (Speg.) comb. nov. and Ascochyta caulina (P. Karst.) comb. nov. Descriptions of these species in vivo and in vitro are given and the differentiating characters are discussed. A. caulina represents the type species of Chaetodiplodia P. Karst., which genus is reduced to the level of a section of Ascochyta Lib. |

Van der Aa & van Kesteren (1979) redescribed a Phoma species commonly occurring on species of Chenopodium in Europe, as Phoma variospora v. d. Aa & v. Kest. After the appearance of this publication, in November 1979, descriptions of some new species of Phoma came to their attention amongst which was also Phoma variospora Shreemali (1978, issued in July 1979) based on a different fungus. According to the rules of priority Phoma variospora v. d. Aa & v. Kest. has to be renamed. The following name change is proposed: Phoma heteromorphospora v. d. Aa & v. Kest., nom. nov. Phyllosticta chenopodii Westend. in Bull. Acad. r. Belg. Cl. Sci. 11. 2: 567. 1857. Phoma variospora v. d. Aa & v. Kest. in Persoonia 10: 268. 1979. — non Phoma variospora... |

Three plant-inhabiting fungi with tetraradiate conidia, Tricornispora bambusae Bonar, Fumagopsis triglifioides Speg., and Eriosporella calami (Niessl) Höhn., the type species of monotypic genera, are redescribed and illustrated from type specimens. These genera are regarded as distinct. Fumagopsis is possibly closely related to Kazulia Nag Raj. Since the type specimen of Tridentaria Preuss did not bear a fungus which agreed with the very brief original description, the genus Tridentaria Preuss is regarded as doubtful. The nematode-trapping Hyphomycetes formerly placed in Tridentaria should be reclassified. |

A method is presented to derive an operational phenetic species concept for the Hebeloma crustuliniforme complex in northwestern Europe. The complex was found to consist of at least 22 biological species (intercompatibility groups; ICGs). Almost none of these biological species could be recognised unambiguously by morphological criteria. It is therefore necessary to base a phenetic species concept on combinations of biological species. However, such species delimitation must be performed within an explicitly phylogenetic context. It is crucial therefore to have a reliable estimate of the phylogeny of 22 biological species in that complex. Based on two nuclear sequences, we present a best estimate of the phylogeny of biological species within the complex.... |

New and rare hoverflies for the Dutch fauna (Diptera: Syrphidae). Paragus albifrons (Fallén), P. bicolor (Fabricius), Sphegina verecunda Collin, Neoascia annexa (O.F. Müller), Callicera aenea (Fabricius), Cheilosia caerulescens (Meigen), C. chloris (Meigen), C. flavipes (Panzer), Chamaesyrphus scaevoides (Fallén), Xylota coeruleiventris Zetterstedt, Merodon rufus Meigen and Eristalis picea (Fallén) are recorded with full details for the first time from The Netherlands. The species of the Pyramidellidae collected during several expeditions in the south-eastern part of the North Atlantic Ocean are listed, with locality data, depth ranges, and notes on nomenclature, systematics and distribution. The samples classified with the genera Pyramidella, Tiberia, Adelactaeon, Odetta, Folinella, Ondina, Odostomia, Puposyrnola and Eulimella (partly) are dealt with in this paper. In total 64 species are reported from the research area, 32 of which are described as new to science; one nomen novum is introduced. Lectotypes of Aclis tricarinata Watson, 1897, Monoptygma puncturata Smith, 1872, Odetta sulcata de Folin, 1870, and Odostomia sulcifera Smith, 1872, are designated and figured. In an appendix, the complete locality data of the... |
